The ethos behind “meat alternatives” largely centres on the premise that these “faux meats” will assist us as a global society in reducing green-house emissions.
To date, it is estimated that the meat industry contributes to 20% of the green-house gases.
Beyond the presumed environmental benefits, adopting a plant rich diet is associated with better quality of life, reduced morbidity and mortality.

A little story from Dr. Anthony Marotta to add flavor, pardon the pun, as to why he knows Babz is better for consumers.
“I remember being asked by an individual representing one of the municipalities what my thoughts of this new category of “faux- meats was and some of the early entrants in the market. My immediate reaction was that I needed to go into action and evaluate each ingredient, the nutritional information and how the product was being built for human consumption. It took me and one of my colleagues from the health advisory, board, Dr. Esford, a couple of days to carefully articulate our feedback from a scientific perspective. Also, we did not want to bias this individual. We would simply state the facts and allow them to make an informed decision. I am sure you can guess what decision they made.”
In a similar fashion, when we met Martin of Babz and entered the evaluation phase of certification, we requested access to all product specifications sheets for the Babz products, each of the ingredients used, and in certain cases introductions to select suppliers, especially those in which biological materials like nutritional yeast were being used.
